Some new materials

I started this "New materials" tab to the blog to introduce and offer new tasty stuff as I get it. New stuff could be anything from wood, metals, or stone. Let's start off with the ammonites. I have been wanting to do some inlays with these for a while, I just haven't found the right sets. I have seen many people use them in different ways. I got a few ideas up my sleeve but I need some takers to try it out. These should fit good in 1 inch to 1-1/2 inch. I want to do both round and tear shaped sets. Inlay, maybe prong set, we'll see.

Here is a nice little pair of gems here. 10 mm lunar mystic cz's. They are all different colors of the rainbow at all different angles. I think these may look good in silver prongs on a dark wood.

This is a piece of afzelia burl. A nice blonde with a blue-black area working it's way through. This will be used to make tears and raindrops just under 2 inches or any smaller size. I do have a few more similar pieces that I picked up a few months ago. All of them are from the same burl, cut from different angles.

Orange and blonde two toned afezelia burl. I can get 2 round pairs from this piece about 1-1/4 inch to 1 inch. Very sexy colors on this.

On to the amboyna burl. I have a few small sized pieces. I definitely want to do a pen from one of these, but plugs I can do from 2 gauge to 5/8 or so with these.

One more piece of amboyna. It is about 2-1/2 inches at the tallest point and over 6 inches long. I can definitely get the red and white in a small pair of tears. The smaller one is 2-1/2 by 1-1/2 inches.

I plan on updating the New materials blog as often as the New work one. You will be able to see the progression from raw material to finished product. So as I am posting this right now all of these materials are available either for sale as is or in custom orders. Please feel free to ask me about any of them, even when this post is old. Sometimes these pieces sit waiting for the right person to pick them up. Throw some ideas my way. I am always up for some fresh ingenuity.
